Nose-ring (Nath): breath regularizing agent.
This is the ornaments which is worn in nose, it is called Nath / Nathni in Hindi. Mukkuthi / Mookuthi in Tamil. This is one of the compulsory ornaments as per Hindu traditions and should be wear by every Indian girl. It helps to breath regular and comfortably. These Indian traditions have become a sign of fashion these days.
The custom to wear this ornamental jewel is typically different from one state to other, one caste to other and even different amongst communities within Hindu religion. Some use it in their left nose, some at right and few wear it in both sides of their nose. Though it is mainly used for beautifying women, the in-depth meaning can’t be termed as unfound myth. It is considered to regularize breathing.
According to Ayurveda, piercing the nose near a particular node on the nostril helps in lessening the pain during monthly periods in women. Hence, girls as well as older women are supposed to wear nose rings.
